Epidermolysis Bullosa - DEBRA International research grants 2014-2 (€ 240,000)

DEBRA International invites applications for its International Research Grants. Deadline for submissions of applications is September 15, 2014. DEBRA (the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association) supports research to gain a better understanding of the causes of all forms of epidermolysis bullosa (EB), with the aim of developing improved treatments and diagnostics and, ultimately, they hope, even cures. It is expected that funding requests would not exceed € 80,000 per annum. However, funding in excess of these amounts may be allowed if considered by DEBRA to be adequately justified in the grant application, and subject to funding availability.

Research projects may be between 6 months and 3 years duration. Current research priorities are:
• Improve our understanding of the biology and genetics of all forms of EB, as better understanding can lead to new approaches to diagnose and treat EB;
• Work towards the development of therapies (including possible gene-therapies, cell-therapies, drug therapies or protein therapies);
• Understand the nature of wound healing and the development of skin cancer in EB, and seek to develop better treatments and prevention strategies;
• Support clinical care research to improve the management of EB through symptom relief.

DEBRA International is a worldwide network of national groups working on behalf of those affected by the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). DEBRA's vision is to ensure that people living with EB have access to the best quality support and medical care, while also driving the development of effective treatments and cures for EB.
