NWO TOP grants Psysical Sciences open for proposals

NWO invites proposals from researchers within the physical sciences for the new TOP grants at NWO Physical Sciences. Deadlines are March 21, 2013 (preliminary proposals Module 1 and full proposals Module 2) and August 27, 2013 (full proposals Module 1). The TOP grants competition is intended for applications involving innovative and risky scientific research which addresses a question of a high academic standard and great scientific urgency. Applications should have demonstrable importance for astronomy, computer science and/or mathematics. The TOP scheme is divided into two module, namely one for junior researchers (Module 1) and one for senior researchers (Module 2).

The budget for the 2013 round is approximately € 4 million for Module 1 and approximately € 2 million for Module 2. For Module 1 researchers can apply for a grant for a minimum of two and a maximum of three research positions (PhD students or post-docs), plus a maximum of € 25,000 for additional resources for the proposed research. Module 2 funds a grant for one research position plus a maximum of € 10,000 for additional resources for the proposed research.
