New Hubert Bals Fund funding opportunities announced

The Hubert Bals Fund (HBF), an initiative of International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has redesigned its policies and procedures in order to improve the impact of its support and address the current needs of filmmakers and the industry. The main goal of the changes is to optimise the support and services HBF offers to extraordinairy film talent around the world. The fund has announced new deadlines for 2017.

The deadlines are:

  • March 1, and June 1, 2017, for the HBF Bright Future: calls for feature films by first-and second-time filmmakers (maximum amount of € 10,000 per project);
  • March 1, 2017 for the HBF Voices: call for filmmakers more advanced in their carreer (maximum amount of of € 10,000 per project);
  • March 14, 2017 NFF+HBF Coproduction: a collaborated call between the Netherlands Film Fund and the Hubert Balls Fund (an amount of € 200,000 for the NFF + HBF scheme per year. Dutch producers can be awarded with a maximum amount of € 50,000 production support in order to co-produce a film that has recieved a script development grant by the HBF;
  • April 1, 2017 HBF+Europe schemes for Minority Co-production Support: financial support to the distribution of feature films by filmmakers from Africa, Asia, Latin America and parts of Eastern Europe (maximum amount of € 55,000 per project).

Distribution Support for International Co-productions remain unchanged. No call for HBF Postproduction support has been announced yet. New Guidelines and deadlines are expected late 2017.
