2012-11-27 The International COURAGE in Europe Conference and Satellite Symposium ' will take place from 27 to 29 November 2012 in Milan, Italy.

As Europeans live longer, disabilities are on the rise and valid and comparable longitudinal health data is essential for evidence-based policy making. Valid data requires better measurement instruments and methodologies for longitudinal and cross-population comparative analyses. After an in-depth critique of existing ageing studies, the project 'Collaborative Research on Ageing in Europe' (COURAGE) will develop and validate, in three countries, measures of health and health-related outcomes for an ageing population.

The project aimed to develop a tool to measure health and health-related outcomes for an ageing population. This tool offers objective and evidence-based prevalence trends, while linking these to quality of life and well-being as well as to the role of health determinants such as the built environment and social networks. Understanding ageing and its determinants will have a considerable impact on public health policies. The project brought together 12 partners from Italy, Spain, Finland and Poland, as well as the World Health Organisation .

The event will look at the results of the EU-funded project, link its results to those of other European and International Ageing and Disability Projects and allow for general discussion and sharing of perspectives among major stakeholders.
