Internationale Stichting Alzheimer Onderzoek grants 2015 (€ 200,000)

The Internationale Stichting Alzheimer Onderzoek (ISAO) invites applications for its grants. The Letter of Intent-application period will run from January 16, 2015 till March 9, 2015. ISAO awards grants for fundamental research into the underlying mechanisms of, and possible therapeutic treatments for, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. There are four types of grants: Major Grants, Standard Grants, Pilot Grants and Border-Crossing Grants.

The main criterion for the evaluation of the application is whether the proposed research is likely to improve the understanding of the pathophysiology and underlying mechanisms causing Alzheimer's disease and/or is likely to effectively promote therapeutic strategies. ISAO primarily supports basic, academic research but also welcomes new and challenging ideas and innovative and original approaches.

These are the four different grant schemes:

Major Grant: up to a maximum of € 200,000 for four years, limited to € 50,000 per year;
Standard Grant: up to a maximum of € 100,000 for two years, with a maximum of € 50.000 per year;
Pilot Grant: up to a maximum of € 50,000 for two years, with a maximum of € 25,000 per year;
Border-Crossing Grant (for collaborative projects between the Netherlands and France, and between the Netherlands and Germany):

Standard applications: up to a maximum of € 100,000 for two years,
Pilot applications: up to a maximum of € 50,000 for two years.



It is understood that more senior Alzheimer's disease investigators will have other funding in related areas of research, but the application to ISAO should not be used to support other efforts as an add-on, or to compensate for grant cutbacks. Therefore, the applicant is advised to focus on a specific project that can be addressed in terms of a clear and well-defined hypothesis and specific aims, and completed within a reasonable time. ISAO grants are awarded to universities, medical centers, and independent non-profit research institutions.
