NWO publishes call Cooperation China - Advanced Materials

NWO invites applications for the call Advanced Materials within the programme Cooperation China (NSFC). Deadline for submitting applications is January 15, 2015. The programme aims at stimulating sustainable research collaboration between China and the Netherlands by funding joint research projects. Joint Sino-Dutch research teams can apply. For Dutch researchers a budget of up to € 1,500,000 is available, which covers funding for five or six joint projects.

The programme invites joint research teams to submit project proposals that focus on challenges in the following fields:

Resources: material for separation and treatment of waste streams; recyclable materials; biodegradable material; utilization of greenhouse gasses;
Energy: energy and feedstock efficient production of building blocks for the future; materials for storage of energy;
Food & Bio-economy: new materials with new functionalities and applications; smart packaging;
Construction industry and Transport: light but sturdy materials; smart, self-healing paint; functional additives for coatings; organic and inorganic smart and self-resilient composites;
Health: self-healing materials and ‘intimate technology, functional sportswear, biomedical materials, packaging for functional and healthy food.

Funding for an individual project on the Dutch side is up to € 280,000, covering funding of at least one Postdoc or PhD position (fixed rates, according to VSNU tariffs) and a maximum of € 75,000 for research costs (including travel, material, laboratory, equipment). The selected Joint Research Projects will run for three to four years. The earliest starting date is August 1, 2015.
