NWO publishes Partnership Mastering Complexity (MasCot)

The NWO domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES) has published a new call for proposals Mastering Complexity (MasCot). In this Partnership NWO AES finances together with the Embedded Systems Innovation (ESI) Centre of TNO insightful and innovative research in the next generation of engineering methodologies, that help managing the increasing system complexity in high-tech systems. Deadline for submitting pre-proposals is February 26, 2019.

The budget available is up to € 2,85 million, funded 50/50 between NWO domain AES and ESI Joint Innovation Centre within TNO. The contribution is up to € 750,000 per project.

Goal of the programme is to investigate and deliver the next generation of engineering methodologies, integrating a number of formalisms, techniques, methods, and tools, that help managing the increasing system complexity. Achieving this goal helps improve quality and reduce development costs for future generations of cyber-physical systems. The focus is on new MBE methodologies with four main research themes, that are directly related to four of ESI’ s research expertise areas:

  • Model Inference;
  • Run-time Scheduling of Diverse and Dynamic Systems;
  • Model-based Restructuring of Legacy Systems;
  • Verification and Validation of Diverse and Evolving Non-deterministic Systems.

It is essential to the success of the program that the results can be utilised by ESI and its industrial partners to address the complexity challenge and bridge the gap in terms of TRL between academic research (TRL 1-3) and industrial practice (TRL 7-9).

On January 24, NWO organises an information and matchmaking event in Utrecht. If you want to attend the event you can send an email to M.Houdijk-Markus@nwo.nl until January 21.
