NWO New Netherlands Polar Programme open for applications

NWO invites applications for the New Netherlands Polar Programme of the NWO Division for the Earth and Life Sciences (ALW). Deadline of submissions is January 14, 2014. The programme aims to encourage high-quality scientific research in and into the polar regions. This grant round aims specifically at optimal usage of the Dirck Gerritsz Laboratory in Antarctica. Research proposals need to fall in one of the four themes from the Masterplan Poolposition-NL:
• Ice, climate sea level;
• Polar Oceans;
• Polar ecosystems;
• Humanities and changes in polar regions.

The budget for this round is up to € 1,000,000. Researchers can apply for one PhD position or 1 postdoc position for a period of up to 3 years. A significant part of the research needs to be conducted in the Dirck Gerritsz Laboratory in Antarctica. In addition to the position you can apply for research supporting equipment, up to a total amount of € 110,000 of which a part should be matched by the home institution, and specifically needed consumables, fieldwork and travel costs for fieldwork. The requested amounts for consumables and fieldwork/travel costs may together amount to no more than € 50,000 for the entire funding period.
